January Curriculum Spotlight: Polar Pals and Tinker Time

A new year means new adventures in learning at St. Matthew’s Weekday School. This January, our classrooms will be filled with curiosity and creativity as children explore the themes Polar Pals and Tinker Time. These themes invite young learners to discover the beauty of winter and explore how things work through imaginative, hands-on experiences.

For our infants and toddlers, lessons will focus on the color white and the shape of a heart. Through sensory play, songs, and gentle exploration, children will experience the wonder of winter while learning about textures, colors, and movement.

Our preschool classrooms will take learning to new levels with engaging projects that combine play and early academics. This month, preschoolers will focus on the letters M, N, and O, the numbers 11 and 12, the color white, and the shape of an octagon. Through art, building, and science play, they’ll learn about polar animals, winter weather, and creative tinkering that encourages curiosity and problem-solving.

Throughout January, teachers will guide children as they explore how creativity helps us learn about the world. From pretending to be penguins to designing playful inventions, every day will bring new opportunities for discovery, friendship, and joyful learning.
