Celebrating Creativity and History: Art & Juneteenth at SMWS

Week 3 of SMWS Summer Camp will bring together creativity and cultural discovery through our theme:
Art Exploration & Juneteenth Celebration.

This week, campers are:

  • Designing a collaborative Juneteenth mural titled Canvas of Celebration, with each child adding a unique artistic touch

  • Exploring Juneteenth through interactive storytelling, music, and rhythm-based activities

  • Learning the symbolism of red during a themed snack day with strawberries, watermelon, and red punch

Our classrooms are inspiring art spaces, where creativity and learning intertwine. Campers are experimenting with different art forms—painting, sculpting, chalk art, and collage-making—giving them the opportunity to express big ideas through hands-on discovery.

A central theme this week is: "Art helps us celebrate who we are and where we’ve come from." This idea guides our conversations and activities as children discover the meaning behind Juneteenth in an age-appropriate and engaging way.

We invite families to extend the learning at home by discussing the artwork and stories your child brings home. You can also look forward to catching moments from this memorable week on Brightwheel and our social media pages.

Thank you for supporting your camper’s journey through creativity and cultural awareness at SMWS!
