Sweet Dreams and Life on the Farm: What We’re Exploring in November

Preschoolers playing with a farm puzzle and animals during Life on the Farm week at St. Matthew's Weekday School

November brings new themes to explore through stories, songs, art, conversation, and play. This month, our Funshine Express curriculum will take children into the cozy world of Sweet Dreams and introduce them to Life on the Farm.

In our preschool classrooms, children ages 3-5 will become more familiar with the letters G, H, and I, the numbers 7 and 8, and the color brown. Our younger children will explore the rectangle and star shapes along with the color brown.

These ideas show up throughout the day in ways that feel natural and familiar to young children. As teachers guide play and observe each child, they’re paying attention to growing language, early math skills, creativity, problem-solving, and social development. A farm-themed story, for example, may lead to conversations about animals, counting during play, new vocabulary, or children working together to care for a pretend barnyard.

You can join the conversation at home with simple questions like:

  • What animals might we see on a farm?

  • What sound does each animal make?

  • Can you find something brown?

  • Can you spot a rectangle or star?

  • What helps you get ready for sleep?

  • Can you think of a word that begins with G, H, or I?

There’s no need to turn these questions into a lesson. A little conversation in the car, at dinner, or before bed helps children connect what they’re exploring at school with the world around them.

We’re looking forward to seeing where their curiosity takes us this month!
