Celebrating Faithful Friendships: A Look Back on Our September Christian Message

In September, children at St. Matthew’s Weekday School learned about the powerful friendship between David and Jonathan, based on 1 Samuel 18:1–5. Through this story, we explored what it means to be a loyal, kind, and selfless friend.

We shared the story of David and Jonathan in ways that were simple and meaningful for young children. Jonathan’s friendship with David showed our students how true friends support and care for one another.

His courage and love for David are a reflection of God’s love for each of us.

One special classroom activity was the creation of friendship hearts. Children decorated and exchanged them with kind words and smiles. Just like Jonathan and David, they had the chance to practice encouragement, kindness, and connection.

Our goal this month was to help children link what they learn from the Bible to their own friendships. Jonathan’s loyalty, even as the son of a king, reminded us all that God places special people in our lives for a reason.

We invite you to ask your child what they remember about David and Jonathan. You may hear a story of friendship that will warm your heart. As we move forward, we continue to plant seeds of faith, love, and friendship in everything we do.
