Kids in the Kitchen Week: Our Campers Cooked Up Something Wonderful

Kids in the Kitchen week at St. Matthew's Weekday School was one of the most delicious weeks of our summer. Our campers channeled their inner chefs this week, and the results were tasty, creative, and incredibly fun.

Each day was built around a different kitchen skill or food science concept. Children learned about measuring and fractions through hands-on cooking activities, explored how mixing ingredients creates chemical reactions (hello, baking soda and vinegar again!), and practiced following step-by-step directions to make simple snacks and treats.

Some of the highlights included making their own trail mix, creating fruit kabobs, designing mini pizzas with healthy toppings, and decorating sugar cookies with colorful frosting. Every activity connected food to real learning, and our kids were so proud of what they made.

We also talked about where food comes from, how different cultures celebrate with food, and what it means to share a meal with people you care about. Those conversations were some of the sweetest moments of the entire week.

Next week we blast off for Space Week! Our campers are about to explore the solar system, learn about stars and planets, and discover what it really means to reach for the stars.
