We Reached for the Stars: Space Week at St. Matthew's Weekday School
This week at St. Matthew's Weekday School, our summer campers became junior astronauts. Space Week sent us on an out-of-this-world adventure through our solar system, and the wonder and curiosity our kids brought to every activity reminded us just how big their imaginations are.
We explored all eight planets, learned about stars and constellations, and talked about what it would take to actually travel to space. Our classroom became mission control for the week, complete with star maps on the walls and planet mobiles hanging from the ceiling.
Campers designed and built their own rockets using cardstock and art supplies, created galaxy jars with swirling colors and glitter, and made their own constellation viewers using black paper and small holes poked to form star patterns. Holding those up to the light and seeing the stars emerge was a genuinely magical moment.
We also had a fantastic conversation about real astronauts, what they study, and how anyone can dream of going to space. Our kids had so many questions, and we loved every single one.
Next week is our final week of summer camp: Spirit Week! It is going to be an unforgettable celebration of our incredible summer together, and we could not be more excited to share it with our families.
