Music Week at St. Matthew's Had Our Campers Singing, Dancing, and Drumming

Music Week at St. Matthew's Weekday School brought our summer camp to life in a whole new way. This week, our classrooms were filled with sound: drumming rhythms, silly songs, homemade instruments, and the kind of joyful noise that reminds you what childhood is all about. We wrapped it up by creating our own SMWS Beat and Song!

Our teaching team led campers through a week of musical exploration. Children discovered how rhythm works, learned to keep a beat, and found out that music isn't just something you listen to; it's something you feel. We made shakers from recycled bottles, created drums from empty containers, and built simple xylophones using glasses filled with varying amounts of water.

Each day featured a different style of music, from classical to folk to gospel. Kids listened, moved, and talked about how each kind of music made them feel. The conversations were rich and the dance breaks were spectacular.

We ended the week with an informal little "concert" where each group had a chance to perform their own rhythm piece for friends. The confidence and joy on every child's face during those moments was unforgettable.

Next week we head outside for The Great Outdoors theme. Campers will be exploring nature, going on discovery walks, and celebrating everything that makes the world beyond our walls so amazing.
