Our Campers Became Insect Investigators This Week

Armed with magnifying glasses and curious minds, our St. Matthew's summer campers spent this week exploring the incredible world of insects. Insect Investigators week was a hit from start to finish.

We dug into the science of bugs in a way that felt hands-on and exciting. Children examined specimens up close, learned about the life cycles of butterflies and beetles, and created detailed field journals filled with their own drawings and observations. Our teaching team set up discovery stations around the classroom where kids could touch (safely!) preserved insects and match them to their names on identification cards.

Outside time this week had a whole new purpose. Campers hit the playground with a mission: find as many bugs as possible. They found rolly pollies, spotted ladybugs, and watched ants carry crumbs with impressive teamwork. The excitement when someone found something new was contagious.

We also made some seriously cute ant and caterpillar crafts that our kids were very proud to bring home. Ask your little one about their favorite insect discovery this week.

Next week we trade the garden for the ocean as we dive into Under the Sea! Our campers are in for an adventure exploring ocean life, sea creatures, and everything that lives beneath the waves.
