What Your Child Is Learning This September

September brings a new set of themes into every classroom at SMWS. Each one builds a different piece of your child's world.

Our preschoolers start with Marvelous Me. The theme is built around self awareness and confidence, and it gives children language for who they are. Orchard Adventure comes next. Children learn about fruit, farms, and where the food on their plate comes from. Then come letters with A, B, C. Numbers get their turn with 1, 2, 3. The month wraps up with the color red, woven through art, stories, and play.

Our infant and toddler classrooms follow their own path this month. Children explore Circle, which centers on shapes and early recognition skills. They get their own version of Marvelous Me and Orchard Adventure. The month closes with two full weeks on red and circle together, so our youngest learners have room to build on what they already know.

Every theme turns into something your child can see and touch. It's on the walls. It shapes the stories read at circle time. It fills the activities that make up their day. Ask your child about the color red toward the end of the month. You'll probably get more of an answer than you expect.
